Introduction

Just a little bit of info about me, and why I do what I do…

Hello! I’m Rachel, a designer for Wild Seeds Patterns with a passion for sewing, vintage style, and hand embroidery. I considered dressing up nice and taking a beautifully staged photo at some dreamy location for this introduction, but the truth is, I’m just not that fancy. When I’m not busy taking care of my four kids, I spend most of my days dreaming up new clothing creations or researching alternative sewing and embroidery techniques. Although I absolutely LOVE making over-the-top lacey dresses, Disney-inspired costumes, and fancy wardrobes for my children, I prefer to live in comfy t-shirts and sweat pants covered in thread/fabric lint while sipping my multiple cups of iced coffee.

My adventures in sewing began as a way to keep me sane while my husband was busy with the various sports seasons as a high school coach in the great state of Texas. But what started out as a hobby quickly turned into an obsession. I learned to sew from tutorials on blogs, YouTube videos, and PDF patterns. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of being a pattern tester for a couple of those same PDF pattern companies. The sewing community on Facebook has been such a source of wisdom, friendship, and encouragement, and I hope to be able to inspire and encourage others to push their creativity through these posts.

With the release of the Barbie movie, everyone is once again falling in love with the fashion doll icon. Back-to-School

Summer has gone by too fast and the school year is already beginning again. But as much as I dislike all the back to school shopping, I do enjoy sewing up new clothes and outfits for my kids. So I was very happy to have been invited to be part of Project Run + Play’s…

Hocus Pocus

While I might not have always loved Halloween when growing up (I’m REALLY not into all the spooky stuff), now I look forward to it now every year. It is a time when all my children let me make something for them because they know that “Mama made” is more fun, durable, and personalized than…
